Salmon at Storm Drain

We all need to make changes in the way we live to save our wild salmon runs from extinction. Sunridge's deed restrictions regulate certain activities known to affect salmon and other aquatic life:

1) Storm Drain Dumping. Dumping or discharge into the public storm drain system or any open waterway of oil, gasoline, fuel, grease, paint, antifreeze, soap, cleaners, or any other chemical is prohibited. $1,000 damages per violation may be assessed.
2) Concrete Washout. Concrete residues are highly toxic to aquatic life. Concrete trucks must use a special washout area to ensure concrete residues do not enter waterways. $500 damages per violation may be assessed.
3) Pesticide Use. Lawn chemicals have recently been implicated in the decline of our salmon runs. Click here to learn more about Sunridge's rules regarding pesticide use.
4) Water Conservation. Young salmon require adequate river flow to safely make the journey from stream to ocean. Since outdoor watering is the predominant use of water in urban areas, Sunridge does not require irrigation of lawns or other landscaping. Water conservation techniques that utilize principles such as limited use of lawn areas, drought tolerant and/or native plants, reduced pruning and mowing, and generous use of mulch are encouraged.
5) Erosion Control. Bare soil cannot be left exposed for more than ten days from October 15 through June 15. There is a $100 per day penalty for exceeding the ten-day limit.
